Lake Oliphant: a managed state fishing lake

Lake Oliphant is a 40-acre state-managed fishing lake in Chester County, off Highway 190. As one of South Carolina’s network of small “state lakes,” it is intensively managed — fertilized and stocked — to produce excellent fishing out of all proportion to its size, with largemouth bass, bluegill, shellcracker and catfish all in good supply.

The lake has a boat ramp and an accessible fishing pier, and like other SCDNR state lakes it is open on a limited schedule — generally Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays — so it pays to check before you go. A South Carolina fishing license is required.
